Why Asia? Today the Asian region is dominating in development dynamics among all regions in the world. It is primarily caused by such industrial and technological giant in the region as Japan, growing of China and new Asian industrialized countries (the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong-Kong, India and several other countries) that have high rates of annual GBP growth and conduct market-oriented policies. Due to Global Competitiveness Ranking 2009/10 of IMD (57countries) the first place at Top-10 takes Singapore (3rd in 2009), the second - Hong-Kong (2 in 2009), 8 - Taiwan (23 place in 2009), 10 - Malaysia (18 in 2009), then China takes 18th position (20 in 2009), India - 31rd (30th in 2009).
Due to WEF base (139countries): Singapore - 3rd place, Japan - 6th, China - 27th, India - 57th. According to IMD Competitiveness Factors (Base: 2008/09) the following Asian countries are leading in: - Hong-Kong - in International Trade, International Investments, Government Efficiency, Public Finance, Fiscal Policy, Finance in Business efficiency; - Singapore - Institutional Framework, Business Legislation, Business Efficiency, Labor Market - Malaysia - Management Practice, Attitudes& Values in Business Efficiency - China - Employment The knowledge about the Asian region and ways of cooperation with these countries is not sufficiently structured and systematic in Ukraine. Although in business education some steps have been already taken (for example, several Ukrainian business schools organize the international study tours in some countries), we aim to draw more attention to economic and management developments in Asia. Main goal - to strengthen and promote Asia studies within Ukrainian business community.
Objectives of LvBS Asia Center:
- to familiarize Asia Center audience with the principles of management, features of the macroeconomic situation, business environment, social and cultural life of the Asian region by organizing several meetings, seminars and discussions with invited experts in this area
- to develop intellectual resources for understanding the management principles and features of the macroeconomic and socio-cultural development of Asian region (articles, case studies, podcasts, publications, books, studies, interviews)
- to provide people interested in cooperation with the Asian region the possibility to take the International study tour to some of the Asian region countries, that is rapidly developing and has an impact on the macroeconomic situation in the world
- to organize workshops, international conferences and guest lectures on Asia
Asia Center of LvBS focuses primarily on China, India, Japan and Southeast Asia. The priority will be on projects with interdisciplinary approaches to studying Asian countries, regions, and issues that link them to each other and the global system.
