Amy L Kenworthy, Sofiya Opatska, Yulia Vintoniv

In one of their research articles, authors Amy L. Kenworthy, Sofia Opatska, and Julia Vintoniv explored the connections that form around us, particularly within the academic environment. They wrote an essay in which they shared their experiences of (re)discovering connection and invited others to embark on this journey.

Abstract

Reflect on your connections with others—those who shape and share the spaces and places of your life experience with you. For many of us, when we look deeply and honestly at our academic environment, we see and feel alienation. In this call-to-action essay, we sincerely share our experiences of disconnection while inviting others to critically reflect on the conscious and unconscious ways we perpetuate the “normalization of alienation” in our lives.

Our hope is to inspire radical, conscious change that creates spaces where we stand together—as a community founded on care and solidarity—casting pebbles of hope that ripple into (re)connection and renewal.
