Within the Forum of Ecologically Safe Energy (Small Energy Forum) in Betaplace, a two-day Hackathon took place, dedicated to the development of resolutions for green energy, connected with cleanweb and cleantech.
Six teams of participants got the assignment to create a business-model of a permanent nature, to develop prototypes of cleantech as well as additions to the internet, mobile appliances and social networks to enhance the development of energy efficiency and the conducting of renewed energy. Every participating team of the Hackathon had a mentor. Mentors included business-experts and entrepreneurs as well as experienced IT engineers. The mentors helped the participants of the Hackathon to approve and filter ideas, provided valuable advice, assisted in the construction of the business model of the project. As a result, each team developed its own product with a concept and developed a business model specified by the market and clients.
The summary of the two-day Hackenton was an evaluation by a jury of experts, including: Blake Berris, the founder and the main activist of Cleanweb Initiative; Sophia Opatska, dean of LvBS; Taras Verveha, member of the Board of Directors of IT Company SoftServe; Viktor Tsykunov, Director of Department of Strategic Technology at Microsoft; Yaromyr Shmid, Department of Energy Management, Lviv City Council.
All the team members of the Hackathon received prizes and beginning capital for launching their projects.
About the participants of the Hackathon and their projects:
Project Genio-Light, First Prize
Team: Khrystyna Parkhuts, Sviatoslav Shchur, Ostap Demkiv, Ihor Kubitsyn.
GenioLight is a unique system of lighting for a smart home. The system is energy effective; it uses LED bulbs which shorten the use of electro-energetic lighting by 80%. The system is current and mobile. You can regulate your lighting through a smartphone and the computer with the assistance of WiFi. The system is smart. If the room is sufficiently lit and the lighting works, then the system will automatically regulate the degree of brightness in order to economize, or if you have left the apartment and forgot to turn off the light, then the system will inform you about that and will offer to turn it off. Facebook page of the project – here.
Prize: 20,000 UAH + participation in the program BizSpark.
Project PowerMe, Second Prize
Team: Vasyl Rybak, Anton Yatsenko, Taras Kornuta, Mykhailo Mosin.
Essential idea: PowerMe resolves two issues: First, if you have forgotten to turn off something from the electrical outlet and left the home and the second issue – high bills for electric energy.
Resolution — every electrical outlet has a controller which permits the turning on or off of the current, as well as to calculate how much the appliance is using which is connected to the specific outlet. These outlets are part of the system Smart Building, which easily differs from its competitors in that no extra wires need to be attached. Everything works through the existing connections. The problem of steep bills for electric energy is resolved after we analyze the volume of the used energy within a month. The system provides reports in the forms of graphs for every outlet. After this, we can see where we overspent.
Prize: 12,000 UAH + participation in the programBigSpark
Project Illumatica, ThirdPrize
Team: Ostap Holiaka, Andriy Meakovskyj, Taras Maziar, Nastia Kornipova.
Every night throughout the world petawatts of electric energy are spent to light streets and roads, regardless of whether this is necessary. Today there emerges the possibility of utilizing electric energy more effectively. According to past accounts we can guarantee stable economizing of electric energy on the level of 40%. Illumatica permits the regulation of the degree of lighting the streets according to the presence of traffic and the conditions of the environment. The data collector of the traffic works on the basis of sound, rather than visual information. Such an approach permits significant increase in the preciseness of recognizing the traffic, to simplify the process of installation and to decrease the cost of the appliance. The uniting of all the appliances in a system permits them to flexibly regulate themselves according to existing conditions and guarantees the appropriate level of lighting there where it is necessary.
Also the system recognizes such dangerous situations as gunfire, loud screams, breaking glass and permits a better coordination of law protection organs. Mesh-network will work according to the standard 802.11p. which will be eventually utilized in all automobiles, piloted or unpiloted. This technology will permit automobiles to more accurately recognize their location within a city where the GPS signal and other systems of navigation cannot guarantee necessary exactness. On its side, the system, composing data from all transmitters will permit an accurate count of the numbers of automobiles and people on the city streets for a better utilization of the management of traffic lights and the avoidance of creating traffic jams. The city dwellers will be able to connect their smart buildings to the system which will automatically permit the regulation of the rheostats and the brightness of lamps according to external conditions.
Prize: 8,000 UAH + participation in the program BizSpark
Special prizes from partners of the Hackathon:
Project Wise Heat − Don’t Heat the Street
Group was composed of participants of the Program in Innovations and Entrepreneurship LvBS
Team: Roman Nykulyshyn, Markian Serchynskyi, Dmytro Zavhorodniy, Yevhen Mordvinov.
Esssential idea:
1- scan all the building in the area through the television and send the owners a letter with a superficial analysis of the heat loss and places on the façade through which the heat escapes.
2- create a platform, something akin to a site –aggregator of goods, but instead of goods, there is a catalogue of companies in your city which concern themselves with heat isolation and precise thermo-audits.
n 3- offer in this site the possibility to people who have become aware of their heat loss in the buildings to form a large (group) order for services (some apartments in the first building united in ordering a detailed audit and isolation), thus cutting their costs. Therefore we live on the commission for services delivered up to 10%. However, we create a channel of sales market and stimulate a demand for companies which heat buildings and perform detailed heat audits. Also, the people, instead of overpaying every winter, can remove the root of the problem. + Find a good contractor through cost rates and such issues, and on the condition of uniting the purchase of several residents of the building, receive a more favorable price.
Prize: 5,000 UAH + learning in the program soft skills in Bionoc Hill.
Project: UtiliService
Team: Zenyk Matchyshyn, Andriy Matchyshyn
Idea: UtiliService – is internet SaaS service for working with data about communal services for building owners, such as communal enterprises or office centers.
It permits:
Automating the collection of data through the use of SMS or the Web for more effective monitoring
Carry out a deep analysis of the indicators for identification of problems which need immediate resolution
Democratizes access to data through a convenient web-interface, thereby enabling a better understanding where the consumer can optimize his use of this or that resource.
Prize: studying in the course Emerging Technologies in the program MSс in Technology Management
Project «MakeMeGreen»: gamified learning platform about eco topic: Educational gamified Eco platform
Team: Maksym Koliada, Vasyl Hordynskyi, Anastasia Bodnarovska, Natalia Voskobiynykova, Yuliya Sviripa.
Project idea: foresees the creation of educational on-line game on the topic of energy-efficient buildings (green buildings). In the process of the game the participants independently design and build buildings by using various materials and energy resources. After the building is completed they can see how energy-efficient their building is, how energy costs effect their wallets and the environment. Also they have the possibility to improve the energy effectiveness of their building and to compete with other players for prizes. The game is based on the current models of computing energy efficiency but which due to the bright design and game mechanisms, it will be interesting not only for students of the profile specialty but also for average inhabitants who hope to raise their abilities in using energy-efficient behavior. Personal energy effectiveness permits saving one’s money and the surrounding environment: “ A Greener House – A Better World!”
Prize: trip to The Netherlands, to Tvente University
