Why Does a Businessperson Need Organizational Philosophy? – Module for IT Executives
How to have a holistic view of your organization and consciously create your corporate culture? Module 4 within MS in Technology Management was held at Lviv Business School. The participants mastered Organizational Development.
“The approach to organizational development is very similar to that in martial arts,” says Andriy Rozhdestvenskyy, course lecturer, business consultant, and managing partner at ARConsulting. “First you need to “learn to breathe”, that is to understand the complexity of organizational philosophy. Then it’s about taking a holistic view of your organization (not just its separate pieces like business strategy or organizational structure). This holistic view will help you understand the links between all the pieces and “fix” whatever does not work.”
The course in Organizational Development lasted for four days and was comprised of both theoretical and practical sessions. The participants dealt with “architecture”: they used paper to construct visual models of their own organizational cultures.
During the module, the IT executives also had an inspirational breakfast with Pavlo Sheremeta, Director of the UCU’s School of Public Management. The discussion revolved around organizational development, culture, changes, and competition. Pavlo Sheremeta believes that it’s OK for a company, especially if it’s a newly established company, not to have an organizational strategy, but each business has an organizational culture. The question is whether we realize that it exists: if yes, then we are in charge of our organizational culture; if not, then it is in charge of us. “Once you’ve achieved something, do not stop! Go the extra mile! Keep moving forward! Trying to keep up with the leader might help in this regard. You just need to pick the right competitors,” pointed out Pavlo Sheremeta.
During the module, the participants also summarized the insights from the course “Methods of Management and Leadership” by Daniel Lewis from the Institute of Leadership and Management, London.
