«Brain drain» has become the main problem for Ukrainian businesses in the last few years. Many Ukrainian companies struggle to compete with the international market in terms of wages, working conditions, and tasks. A large number of Ukrainian professionals prefer foreign companies, where salaries are constantly reviewed and increased, although most foreign companies (especially in the US) keep the most professional industry experts in their countries, entrusting foreign workers (including Ukrainians) with narrower tasks.
One of the reasons One of the reasons is the issue of resources. Ukrainian professionals have high-quality training that meets the needs of the international market, and foreign companies find it more profitable to hire Ukrainians because it requires less financial expenditure, while in Ukraine there is a shortage of business (especially small and mid-sized business) due to instability, high risks, and a lack of resources.
We will discuss that theme with Barry Katz, Adjunct Professor in the Design Group, Department of Mechanical Engineering, at Stanford University and Professor of Industrial and Interaction Design at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. In addition to his academic affiliations, Barry worked for more than twenty years with IDEO, Inc., the global design and innovation consultancy, where he conducted front-end research in support of IDEO project work. He consults with governments, companies, and academic institutions worldwide on issues pertaining to design and innovation. Barry Katz is known for his relaxed and insightful teaching methodology. He encourages students to explore their ideas and experiment with prototyping to help them develop their creativity and solve problems. Katz inspires students to study not only the technical aspects of design but also the social and cultural aspects.
The application of Design Thinking method can help businesses find new resources for development, increase sales volumes, attract new investors, and improve internal processes in operations. Barry M.Katz can help business leaders understand the importance of design thinking in today’s competitive business environment. This topic can help business owners and managers incorporate design thinking into their decision-making processes and resource allocation for development.
