In times of profound social transformation, the role of a leader becomes critical to the survival of organizations. That is why the UCU Business School invites you to a series of May events and workshops featuring leading global and Ukrainian experts — Professor Gerard Seijts of the Ivey Business School, sustainability researcher Elizabeth Stanley from Georgetown University, Iryna Hoi, head of the medical department of the Azov support service, Sofiya Opatska, Founding Dean of UCU Business School and Vice-Rector for Strategic Development at Ukrainian Catholic University, lecturer Andriy Rozhdestvenskyy, and others.
Together with a team of practitioners, we will explore developing a new generation of leaders capable of making complex decisions and serving as a source of hope in times of trial.
A Deep Dive into the Leader’s Character: An Intensive in Kyiv
The series of events will begin on May 19 in Kyiv with a two-day intensive on leadership transformation, developed jointly with the UCU Leadership Center and the Canadian Jan Ignatowicz Institute of Leadership.
This unique program for senior executives focuses on the 11 Virtues of Character model and provides practical tools for working with people affected by war. Participants will master coaching and mentoring techniques, learn to build trust within teams in a volatile VUCA environment, and discover how to restore organizational resilience after crises under the guidance of Gerard Seijts and Andriy Rozhdestvenskyy.
Extreme Management and Ukrainian Resilience
The marathon will continue with a public discussion titled “Leadership in an Era of Upheaval,” taking place on May 21 at the “Sense on Khreshchatyk” bookstore in Kyiv. During the meeting, we will examine Gerard Seijts’s global management perspective through the lens of real-world experience in the agricultural sector and military leadership. Specifically, we will explore case studies from the Continental Farmers Group, which continues to expand despite shelling, and the support unit of the 12th “Azov” Brigade.
The event’s speakers — leadership expert Gerard Seijts, Continental Farmers Group CEO Georg von Nolken, and Iryna Goy, head of the medical department of the support service for the 12th “Azov” Brigade — will discuss why, in moments of risk, a leader’s character matters more than professional skills, and why, in moments of risk, a leader’s character matters more than professional skills. Proceeds from event participants will go toward a charitable cause—converting vehicles to evacuate the wounded from the front lines.
The Synergy of Science and Experience at a Conference in Lviv
The culmination of this series of events will be the 4th International Scientific and Practical Conference on Well-Being Leadership, which will take place on May 22 in Lviv and online.
This year’s theme, “Character. Hope. Balance,” has brought together scientists, business leaders, military personnel, and mental health professionals for an in-depth dialogue on character as an inner compass and hope as the energy for action. The conference will present participants with the latest research in psychology and organizational resilience to help find a sense of life’s integrity even in times of prolonged upheaval.
